What are the key tax policy issues to focus on this week?
Both the House and Senate have left Washington for the five-week August recess and will return after Labor Day. Lawmakers left after the Senate rejected the “skinny” ObamaCare bill – basically leaving the healthcare repeal and replace effort dead for now. This healthcare bill setback has ramped up pressure on Republicans to accomplish something this year on tax reform.
Republicans top priorities have been healthcare and taxes. So they are now turning their focus to taxes in hopes of pulling out a victory this fall – well in advance of the midterm elections.
